Since this upcoming Saturday is the second Saturday of the month, this weekend’s events are ArWalk-centric but with two productive additions. There’s the ArtSpark-funded sci-fi play, a brand-new artisans’ market, and an engrossing interactive art installation. There is also a fun fitness class that benefits homeless pets in Acadiana, and a free networking breakfast for social media mavens. Have fun!
6/6-6/8: Our Place in Space, a new place by Alicia Chaisson: Three scientists are Earth’s only hope this weekend at the Acadiana Center for the Arts! “Our Place in Space” follows the three heroes attempt to locate a planet that might save the earth. The comedy captures its characters’ ambition, wonder, boredom and ethical dilemmas through humanity’s relationship to outer space. The hour and a half long show begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. General tickets are $18, but students and AcA members get in for $15.
6/7 Social Media Breakfast: Opportunity Machine’s free social media breakfast comes to the Cajundome this Friday at 7:30 a.m. The brainstorm session aims to provide local social media practitioners and enthusiasts together to discuss platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, their new developments and how to utilize them. Experts and those new to social media are invited to ask questions, exchange ideas and offer personal startiries. Attendees can RSVP through Eventbrite.
6/8: Pure Barre/Cycle Bar class: Two of Acadiana’s most popular boutique gyms will team up this Saturday to benefit the Animal Rescue Foundation of Louisiana (ARFLA). Pure Barre will host the hour-long class, which will be half cycling and half barre, starting at 11 a.m. The class is $25, and all proceeds go to helping shelter homeless animals in need of a forever home. 6/7-6/8: Sensualia: An Erotic Art Show: Gallery 333 will host this immersive art experience on Friday night and Saturday night for ArtWalk. The gallery will have framed artworks on its walls, as well as human artworks on display. On both nights, VIP entry is 8 p.m., and General Admission attendees arrive at 9 p.m. VIP tickets gets you access to desserts and libations as well as a fantastical gallery. Ticket are available via Eventbrite at varying prices.
6/8: ArtWalk Market at Artmosphere: Artmosphere Bistro will join other downtown venues in serving as an art market during June’s ArtWalk Saturday evening. Jewelers like Heart Stone and String and Linelite Jewelry, and Sweet Cheeks Stationary will be on site from 5-9 p.m. This is an indoor and outdoor market, and a smart way to cool off between galleries! Artmosphere is also serving two for one glasses of wine.
