While it may not have taken place on Twelfth Night, the annual Shakespeare Festival at Tulane Gala was the perfect way to kick-off the 15th season of three-month festivities. The gala, a fundraiser for the festival, took place on Saturday May 31, right after the opening performance of the season’s standout play, The Taming of the Shrew. The entire board of directors was on hand for the fundraiser, including members Marie Cahn, Beth Goddard, Don Marshall, Dr. Quinn Peeper, Juan Barona and Nell Nolan Young. More than 250 other patrons attended the Italian wedding-themed celebration, in keeping with the setting of the show. Guests enjoyed fabulous Italian food, courtesy of some of the city’s premiere restaurants, including Fausto’s Bistro, Maximo’s Italian Frille, Tony Angelo’s Restaurant and Parkway Tavern and Bakery. Perennial favorites Angelo Brocato’s and Andrea’s Restaurant provided scrumptious desserts, while partygoers kept cool with wine donated by Doringac’s Food Center. Much to their delight, each patron received a beautiful coffee table book as a gift, called The Art of Shakespeare. The evening’s cast members joined the party a bit later, including lead actors Sophie Amoss, Rebecca Frank, Lorenzo Gonzalez and David Randolph-Mayhem Davis.
