Carol Bebelle is Executive Director of the Ashé Cultural Arts Center located on Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard in New Orleans' Central City. A Renaissance of business and culture is transforming parts of Central City, and Carol and the Ashé Cultural Arts Center have played and continue to play a huge role in this dynamic development. In 1993, Carol Bebelle and Douglas Redd founded the Ashé Cultural Arts Center. Five years later, in 1998, the Center moved to its current location on Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard (formally Dryades Street). As Carol explains, "Our mission calls us to use culture and art as our primary tools for individual human development and community development." Carol points out Central City's historic significance: "This is a place where a lot of immigrant communities have come; the Jewish community is one of note." In this podcast, Carol modestly acknowledges the honor the Committee For A Better New Orleans will bestow upon her at the 5th Annual Diana Lewis Citizen Participation Awards on August 20, 2014.
