Audubon Zoo Spotlights Latin American Culture at Celebración Latina
NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Latin American culture will once again be in the spotlight as Celebración Latina Presented by Pan-American Life Insurance Group returns to Audubon Zoo on Sunday, Oct. 6. This year marks the 15th year this family-friendly festival has called Audubon Zoo home.
Celebración Latina will offer a true taste of the Latin American culture with live music, children’s activities and Latin cuisine prepared and sold by New Orleans area restaurants from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Area social service and community organizations will be on hand to provide complimentary wellness and social service information. Young visitors of all ages can enjoy their very own Kid’s Tent and create a special take-home souvenir craft.
A full day of live entertainment is scheduled for the Capital One Bank Stage, beginning with DJ Sosa at 11:00 a.m. and concluding with Treces Del Sur at 3:30 p.m.
“Latin American influence is not only a hallmark of New Orleans history, it is an integral element of the city’s modern-day vibrancy and color, from historic architecture to restaurants, music and numerous Hispanic-owned businesses,” said Pan-American Life Insurance Group Chairman of the Board, President & CEO Jose S. Suquet. “It is an honor to partner with Audubon Zoo to celebrate the rich, prospering Latin culture in New Orleans during Hispanic Heritage Month, a time when all of us at Pan-American Life are also commemorating the company’s deep Latin American roots in the U.S. and throughout Latin America.”
Celebración Latina is sponsored in part by the Stone Center for Latina American Studies.
While enjoying the festivities, visitors can stroll through Jaguar Jungle, Audubon Zoo’s Central America-themed exhibit that features spider monkeys, macaws, alpaca, prehensile-tailed porcupines, ocelots and more.
Festival activities are included in regular Audubon Zoo admission. Audubon Nature Institute members are admitted free of charge. No outside food or beverages are allowed in Audubon Zoo for Celebración Latina. Portable chairs and blankets are welcomed. For more event information, click here.
