Celebrating New Orleans in Ascona For those who think Switzerland is all mountains, cows and leather shorts, it may come as a surprise to learn that another Switzerland exists, one where endless sunshine, vineyards and pizza are the norm, and nobody yodels – at least not in public. I’m in Ticino, the Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland, and though I don’t need a reason to come here (I’m with the locals who refer to it as a paradiso), on this occasion I’m here for the music.
For the last 20 years, in a small and spotlessly clean town on the shores of Lake Maggiore, one of the most important jazz festivals in Europe takes places, a festival that dedicates itself to traditional and classic jazz from New Orleans, and the only one that collaborates directly with the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana.
