For Therese and Justin Colin, founders of Black Boys Read, raising their sons with a love for reading was of paramount importance. However, after returning to New Orleans after living abroad, they found the local reading curriculum severely lacking Black authors and protagonists. To fill the knowledge and cultural gap, they began Black Boys Read with the mission to foster the joy of reading in young Black men by heralding authors and protagonists who represent them.
