His time playing football at Rummel High School inspired Dr. Russell Russo’s lifelong passion for science and for helping fellow athletes return to form from performance-based injuries. Dr. Russo completed his training in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital, where he, along with the best minds in the field, helped prepare collegiate and professional athletes, ballerinas, world-class musicians, as well as NASA astronauts, to operate at their best with minimal downtime. Fellowship-trained in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery, and double board-certified, Dr. Russo has served twice as Chief of Staff of New Orleans East Hospital and is always in search of new ways he can enrich the health and economy of New Orleans.
New Orleans East Hospital and the community it serves hold a special place in Dr. Russo’s heart. It’s where he has dedicated much of his career, and where he continues to show up for the neighbors, families, and fellow New Orleanians who trust him with their care. For Dr. Russo, medicine has never been just about the procedure — it’s about the person and the community they come home to.
