Baby Yourself

Products meant for babies can do double duty for you too!

Children’s products are more stylish and sophisticated nowadays; gentle enough for children, luxe enough for you, these products save both time
and tub space.

Of course there are those famous products that have been around for years – Johnson’s® Baby Lotion, great on the little one but also, in my dating years, a secret weapon! The baby fragrance was so clean, soft and just a tad familiar to my dates that they couldn’t help but notice. Recently I “borrowed” some from my son’s diaper bag and all day I received compliments on my fragrance.

Vaseline® is a wonder product. I use it quite a bit on photo sets when I want to create that glowing illuminated skin on legs, arms and shoulders. It is also great for chapped lips and dry elbows, feet and hands. In a pinch it can shine your shoes, too!

Johnson’s® Baby Powder is an incredible dry shampoo! For those nights when a smoky jazz club leaves hair less fresh or when you need to get up and go fast, but have flat hair, shake some baby powder at on the roots of your hair and be sure to rub in well. Voila!
My son has dry, sensitive skin, so I’ve tested the market on those lotions and creams that deliver truly fabulous hydration. It is important to mention that while all these products are incredible for hydration, they don’t contain anti-aging technology so be sure to stick with your adult skin care, too!

Triple Cream actually treats Eczema, is fragrance-free, softens skin and moisturizes beyond belief – great après shower and bath, and perfect for dry, chapped or cracked skin.

CeraVe™ Skin Care products have a unique, patented delivery technology that help increase the skin’s ability to attract, hold and distribute moisture while restoring the balance of lipids that are essential for an effective skin barrier. These products were recommended by Dermatologist Dr. Jeff Poole MD. Dr. Poole not only treats grownups with the latest and greatest techno-expertise but he’s also an acclaimed Pediatric Dermatologist right here in New Orleans! His Web site (www.pooledermatology.com) is a comprehensive tool that has helped me greatly; check it out!

Mustela’s Hydra-Stick with Cold Cream Nutri-Protective has a hypoallergenic rich cold cream and Shea Butter formula. It protects sensitive exposed skin is easy to apply and non-sticky, softens the skin and leaves it silky.

California Baby Calendula Cream is botanically based and contains Calendula, which has been used to heal the skin for centuries. Offering deep hydration, it absorbs completely, leaves skin feeling smooth, is great for cuts and scrapes and may be used on both face and body for extra-dry or sensitive skin.

Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Bubble Bath smells yummy, has a mild, tear-free vanilla, coconut and sunflower oil formula and is phthalate- and paraben-free!
When I want little Monkey asleep by 8, I add Aveeno Baby Calming Comfort™ Bath to his tub. The scrumptious scent of lavender and vanilla with skin-soothing oatmeal helps us all relax, unwind and be ready for sleep. Mommy likes in her bath too!

Earth’s Best Organic 2-in-1 Shampoo & Body Wash is tear-free, mild, hypoallergenic, cleanses skin and hair and lightly scented with lavender. Organic chamomile and marigold extracts help soothe dry, irritated or inflamed skin.

I discovered Weleda Calendula Cream Bath products in France last month and was excited to learn that Target carries the brand! A creamy white bath with almond, sesame oil, lavender and lemon oil gives this creamy bath milk its delicate fresh aroma. Step out and you feel a thin, oily layer on your skin – delish!

So go check out that arsenal of baby bath products out there; after all, couldn’t everyone use the same TLC we choose for little ones?
