Mid-City Escape
Mid-City’s Smoke and Honey’s menu honors both Greek and Jewish traditions. By day, it offers both Greek street food and Jewish deli fare, and by night, it is a Greek taverna. The drinks menu include wines from the Kamara Estate, a small family farm in Thessaloniki, Greece. Their Stalisma, a blend of Malagousia-Xinomavro blanc de noir grapes, is named for the Greek word which means “a shady place on summer afternoons where a cool air passes and where a herd rests.” New Orleanians can certainly enjoy a wine named after such a spot. Additional pours include a Moscofilero Wine with floral and citrus flavors, and a crisp, dry finish, while a traditional retsina, with ancient origins, is characterized by its unique pine flavor, light body. Cocktails inclue the ouzo negroni and the “Kind of a Fig Deal,” a fig old fashioned with Feigling fig liqueur, Rustic River rye and Bitter Queens figgy bitters. 3301 Bienville St., 504-264-7165, smokesmokehoneyhoney.com.
