Be Better Off Than You Are

New Orleanians gathered to benefit the Jewish Family Service of Greater New Orleans, the New Orleans Jewish Community Center and the Tulane Hillel at the “Swingin’ On a Star Soirée” held at City Park’s newly opened Arbor Room at Popp Fountain on Saturday, November 12. This charitable event was chaired by three ladies: Sheerie Goodman of Tulane Hillel, Jane Steiner of the New Orleans Jewish community Center and Lauren Wakeman of Jewish Family Service of Greater New Orleans.

Partygoers were serenaded by the sounds of The Yat Pack, a duo whose sound and style revert back to the days when swing was king. There was also a silent auction as well as a live sports-and-entertainment auction conducted by Fox 8’s Lee Zurik. Guests were also eligible to enter the “Swingin’ Raffle”; the winner of the grand prize won two spots on the Jewish Family Service of Greater New Orleans’ Cuban Mission Trip that embarks in April.

The three charitable agencies assisted by “Swingin’ on a Star” aim to enhance their community by providing an array of services including Teen Suicide Prevention, children’s daycare and an Alzheimer’s respite program.
