The Cancer Crusaders would like to “Picture Cancer Cured,” and they invited others to join them on the night of Oct. 16 for its annual fund-raising event. This year’s sold-out soirée took place in Hotel Inter-Continental’s Grand Ballroom, which was the backdrop for a spectacle of flowers created by Glenn Vesh of Perfect Presentations.
After guests entered the party on a red carpet, they enjoyed a seated dinner of tomato-basil bisque, poached salmon salad and grilled filet of beef, then cut a rug to the sounds of Jimmy Maxwell and his 14-piece orchestra. Auction items retailed at more than $65,000 and included a gorgeous 18-inch pearl necklace with a diamond clasp from Aucoin Hart Jewelers, a trip to New York City compliments of the Hotel Inter-Continental and Jet Blue Airlines, and dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.
Cancer Crusaders, a nonprofit, all volunteer organization, was founded in 1976 for the purpose of raising funds for cancer research in the Greater New Orleans area. Since 1978, proceeds raised by the organization, which total in excess of $1,500,000, have been divided equally between the Tulane University and Louisiana State University medical schools in New Orleans for the express purpose of cancer research.
