Be the Holiday Heroine

Decorating for this time of year has never been easier … or more fun!

The holidays are here and no matter what holiday you celebrate, you want to involve all ages! Have tables set up all over the house and get everyone involved in the decorating, cooking and fun activities. Music and musical instruments are a must, as are food that everyone will eat and reindeer ears for children and adults.

We set up one of the children’s tables in front of the fireplace accented by a pre-lit Christmas tree we got at Michael’s. I took a trip to Orient Expressed recently and found lots of great ornaments, sprays of red sparkle accents, faux garland, two Santa books and Christmas tree pens that jingle. Keeping to a reindeer theme from the front door to the chair back bouquets means definitely including toys for the children to play with during and after the party.

Think of activities for the children to keep them involved: Make and decorate cookies, make place cards for everyone, draw pictures of the nativity scene, make ornaments or help cook the meal. You might also buy or rent Karaoke machine or have everyone play Wii!

The adult table is complete with reindeer ears on each chair as well as brightly colored red, pink and green ties for the red chairs. The lighted garland was created years ago at Belladonna and this year I accented the table with it, plus lots of votive candles to create a sensational glow. The center of the table is festooned with faux garland, ornaments and my apple centerpiece, filled with Casablanca lilies.

Thanks to Orient Expressed for the reindeer on the chairs, plates, red napkins, ornaments and front door.
