It may be Valentine’s Day, but no excuse is ever needed to curl up on the couch and watch your favorite romantic comedy. Whether it’s a Matthew McConaughey special or “Love Actually,” the holiday movie that wins all year long, you can’t go wrong with a romcom.
The TV and movie review site Looper recently came out with a study that found the most popular “romcom” according to each state’s search history. The company analyzed Google search trends – which in the last month search for ‘best romantic comedies on Netflix’ have increased by 250 percent – as well as IMBd’s list of the 100 best romantic comedy movies to create their list of the most popular movies by state.
Before we get to Louisiana’s favorite, a few interesting things were found in the study. The classics “10 Things I Hate About You” and “When Harry Met Sally” topped the list as the two most popular romcoms in the U.S., followed closely by holiday classics “The Holiday” and “Love Actually.”
Finally, the movie taking the top spot in Louisiana is …. “When Harry Met Sally.” Even as this is a personal favorite of mine, and picked by more than one Renaissance Publishing staff member, it was still a surprise to see the 1989 film make the top of the Pelican State’s favorites list.

According to the Looper study, Louisiana’s top 10 favorite movies included:
- When Harry Met Sally
- The Proposal
- Pretty Woman
- 10 Things I Hate About You
- The Holiday

- How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days
