New Orleans has come a long way in the five years since Hurricane Katrina. To celebrate our recovery and to honor the tragedy, the Louisiana State Museum has unveiled a monumental exhibit, “Living With Hurricanes: Katrina and Beyond,” that features the stories of those who were caught in the storm’s path, from rescue and recovery to rebuilding and renewal.
The museum’s fundraising gala, called “Weather or Not,” was held on October 23 in the Presbytère and in Jackson Square. The event featured honorees Governor and Mrs. Bobby Jindal and Mayor and Mrs. Mitch Landrieu.
The patron party, held in the Presbytère at 6 p.m., featured food from Stella!’s Scott Boswell, entertainment from Rebirth Brass Band’s Derrick Tabb and drinks from Republic National Distributing Company. The celebration and live auction followed in Jackson Square, and featured music from Ivy and cuisine from Antoine’s, Court of Two Sisters, Angelo Brocato’s, Le Meritage, Stanley and Mr. B’s, just to name a few.
The live auction featured such sought-after items as a fishing weekend with Billy Nungesser, breakfast for a year at Dot’s Diner, a weekend getaway to Nottoway Plantation and a party planned by St. Charles Avenue’s own Beverly Reese Church.
