Bleached, Sinkane And This Week In Music

Bleached Tonight at Gasa Gasa with The Paranoyds and People Museum

There is a lot of really excellent music going on around town tonight.  Gasa Gasa has an outstanding lineup headlined by Los Angeles pop punk outfit Bleached.  Bleached is lead by sisters Jennifer and Jessica Clavin—who as a group have just released their third and, I think,  best record—Don’t You Think You’ve Had Enough.  I love this record, it has a clean precise pop sound that you will carry away with you.  Check out the video for “Hard To Kill” below.  They are joined by fellow west coasters The Paranoyds and excellent local duo—People Museum.

Hand Habits and Whitney at Tipitina’s Tuesday

On Tuesday night Tipitina’s will play host to one of the great shows of the fall when Hand Habits opens for Whitney.  With Hand Habits second record—placeholder— Meg Duffy has created a wonderful juxtaposition between the anxieties of everyday live and the calm progressions of the folk and Americana sounds—this album is definitely on pace to make a lot year end best lists.  Duffy will set the stage for Chicago folk-rock ensemble Whitney.  Whitney made a splash with their debut record in 2016 and they returned last week with follow up—Forever Turn Around.  Whitney’s sound is a blend of classic rock and modern folk that flows effortlessly across the ear.  You won’t want to miss this one.  Check out the video for “Used To Be Lonely” below.

Sinkane at Gasa Gasa Wednesday

Sinkane is back with another excellent record out and another burst of momentum.  This group has produced some of the most interesting funk music of the last five years and certainly come a long way from playing a near empty One Eyed Jacks five years ago.  Every time this group comes through a town, it’s a party.  From the first note, the entire audience can’t help but move.  Leader check out the video for “Everybody” below.

Around Town This Week

Tonight is a huge night for music in a huge week for music around town.  Guitar wizard and one woman sound machine – Tash Sultana – is at the Orpheum Theater.  Tash was one of the great shows that I saw last year.  Jenny Lewis is back through town at the Civic tonight.  Lewis’ most recent record On The Line came out in March and is absolutely fantastic.  Bleached is at Gasa Gasa and if all that were not enough, the Lost Bayou Ramblers are playing One Eyed Jacks to debut their new live album and documentary.  Tomorrow, Jerry Paper is at Gasa Gasa while Radio Zydeco play the Maple Leaf and The Donald Harrison Quartet does two shows at Snug Harbor.  Sunday, the outstanding Lord Huron drop in at the Orpheum.  Monday, Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol are at Gasa Gasa.  Tuesday, Whitney is at Tipitina’s with Hand Habits while In This Moment is at the Fillmore and Marc Rebillet plays Gasa Gasa.  Wednesday, the incomparable Sinkane is at Gasa Gasa while the Tin Men and Wolfman Washington play back to back shows at d.b.a.  Thursday, Shane Smith and The Saints are at Gasa Gasa.
