Blood Drives to Help Victims of the New Year’s Day French Quarter Attack

NEW ORLEANS – In the early hours of Jan. 1, a man in a Ford pickup truck drove into a crowd of New Year’s revelers on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. This deadly attack took the lives of 15 people and injuring over 30 more.

In swift response, to help those injured in the attack, many local healthcare entities announced blood drives scheduled for around the city.

The Blood Center will host a blood drive event both Jan. 2 & 3 at their building at 2609 Canal St. Those interested in donating can go from 10 am. – 5 p.m., with the assurance that all donors will be provided secure parking.

On Saturday, Jan. 4, Lakeside Shopping Center is partnering with The Blood Center for an additional blood drive. The drive will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those interested can head to the Bloodmobile near the Cheesecake Factory Entrance. They noted all blood types are needed, especially Type O.

Additionally, you can donate to the LCMC blood bank on Houma Boulevard in Metairie at East Jefferson General Hospital and at the Ochsner Blood Bank on Jefferson Highway.
