NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Blue Cypress Books hosts author Brooke Champagne on Saturday, June 22, at 5:30 p.m. Blue Cypress will be celebrating Ms. Champagne’s book, “Nola Face: A Latina’s Life in the Big Easy.” There will be a discussion followed by an audience Q&A and book signing.
This event is free and open to the public. Nola Face is a collection of twenty-two essays that tell the story of the author’s life and her time growing up in New Orleans. It describes her family as well as cultural and political contexts. The essays are reflective of Champagne’s experience as a mixed race person, and pose important questions about racial identity, marriage, and family. The essays offer readers a diverse array of styles and emotions and are an emotional and transportive reflection on the past and our relationship with it
Brooke Champagne is the author of Nola Face: A Latina’s Life in the Big Easy, published with the Crux Series in Literary Nonfiction at the University of Georgia Press. She was awarded the inaugural William Bradley Prize for the Essay, and her work has been selected as Notable in several editions of the Best American Essays anthology series. She is the recipient of the 2023-2024 Alabama State Council on the Arts Literary Fellowship in Prose. She lives in Tuscaloosa, where she is Assistant Professor of Creative Writing in the MFA Program at the University of Alabama.
