The 19th annual fundraiser for The New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation, Azucar Ball, was celebrated in style with a “Cabaret Tropicana” theme on Saturday, November 21, 2009. The LaSalle Ballroom at InterContinental New Orleans was turned into party central with “non-stop” music by Julio y Cesar and Rumba Buena for all the black-tied guests.

The celebration of Latin heritage was led this year by co-chairs Ileana Suquet and Darleen Carlisle. The man of the night was Eugene Schreiber, executive director of the city’s World Trade Center, who received the Galvez Cup award.

As expected, a delicious dinner and silent auction full of special items and trips were enjoyed by all.

Proceeds from the evening go toward the group’s Scholarship Fund, which gifts exceptional Hispanic students with opportunities. Last year 37 students were honored.
