Bonnaroo Day 1: Setting the Stage

Thursday at Bonnaroo used to be a relatively small affair, consisting of a few bands in a couple of tents to entertain the early arrivals as they waited for their friends. In the last few years however, this has become full-blown day of music.

The focus Thursday is always on emerging bands, and was there ever a great lineup this year. Dej Loaf started things off with a raucous set of hip-hip. Little May brought the folk.  Iceage absolutely destroyed the This Tent with their dark rock. Houndmouth brought the harmonies.  Glass Animals proved why they're one of the fastest rising bands on the indie scene (keep an eye here for my on-site interview with Glass Animals after the fest). I cannot say enough positive things about what Courtney Barnett is doing with her live show; she owns a festival just as easily as a club. Finally, Jungle brought a proper light show to That Tent.

A truly full day of music, Thursday is no longer a placeholder. Roo has begun in earnest. Keep an eye here and on twitter (@Minima) for more updates.
