Bonnaroo Day Two
After everyone settled in on Thursday, Friday began with a blast.
Tanya Tagaq and her band did a scorching improvisational set on at This Tent. Tagaq is an Inuit throat singer who achieves the effect of creating her own loops. It is a positively wild experience.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra proved why they are one of the hottest live acts around right now with a set of their standards mixed in with tracks from their excellent new record. Sylvan Esso wrestled with a giant beachball while delivering a set of all bangers, including two new tracks.
Ben Folds and Ymusic played most of Ben's unreleased new record and added classical accompaniment to some old favorites.
Despite Killer Mike's injured arm, Run The Jewels retained their dominance as the best hip-hop act in the world (their words).
Finally the evening ended for us with the French/Finnish group The Dø owning the Miller Light New Music on Tap Lounge (which has become my favorite stage over the last two years). Rarely does a small band pull so many away from their intended destination so quickly. Sorry Odesza, it wasn't personal just the way of the fest.
Stay tuned for a full report and more pictures next week.
