Bountiful Beautification

The Garden District Association Fall Affair chaired by Katherine and Tony Gelderman with Jennifer and John Charpentier drew over 200 attendees to Commander’s Palace in support of the Garden District Association on September 25.

A cocktail hour on the Commander’s Palace patio for benefactors preceded an elegant dinner in the restaurant where guests indulged in a savory menu of delights including cochon de lait with mustard and apple bites, crab mousse canapés, French lobster bisque, bacon fat-injected filet mignon and pecan praline parfaits.

The Garden District Gallery brimmed with vivacious bidders as the silent auction was underway. Guests vied for unique works by local artists such as a handcrafted lamp by Fifi Laughlin, a Scott Howard painting and a hand-turned wooden bowl by Jimmy Gundlach.

Proceeds of the evening benefit the maintenance of zoning and architectural integrity of local neighborhoods along with the effort to maintain a balance between commercial and residential areas. The Enhancing the Canopy of Oaks project and the Oak Trees Along St. Charles Avenue, among other beautification projects, will benefit from funds raised at the elegant affair.
