Bridal Britches

In the 2013 movie “The Heat” Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock’s characters have a comical scene in which McCarthy makes an interesting discovery about Bullock’s clothing.

“What are those?” McCarthy says.

“They're my Spanx,” replies Bullock. "They hold everything together.”

Though the scene is full of hilarity, Spanx are no laughing matter.

Control top pantyhose and the like have been used by women for fashion and functionality for generations. Some of our first thoughts of these “shapers” coincide with the vintage slimming machines you’d see in the ‘50s and ‘60s. Since 2000, Spanx founder Sara Blakely has been determined to fill that shape wear need women are looking for, while knocking down all stereotypes associated with the undergarment.

Since it’s inception, the Spanx brand has taken on not only the world of bras and underwear, but also leggings and activewear. Now, they are branching out into a whole new market — the wedding industry.

On March 24, the Spanx company launched its first bridal line called “Spotlight on Lace.” While announcing the launch, the company said they designed for “the girl who wants her lingerie to do more for her — and that makes her look great and feel even better.”

Bridal Britches

The line consists of four different garments: bodysuit, bralette, brief and high-waisted brief. All four can be bought in the colors vintage rose and very black, while the high-waisted brief also comes in clean white and the bralette and briefs in clean white and classic grey. The combination of solid and lace color blocking, plus sliming lines and shiny fabric gives the new bridal collection an elegant and classic look perfect for any type of wedding day look.

The wedding collection ranges from $38-$70 and extra small to double XL. The line can be found locally at Saks Fifth Avenue in Canal Place.
