Wednesday, April 30, guests gathered at dusk at the New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club for “Tennis Whites” Night 2008, benefiting Communities In Schools Of New Orleans, Inc., the fifth largest organization of it’s kind in America.
Festivities kicked off at 6 p.m., with scrambled doubles matches. Afterward, guests enjoyed cocktails and music by Tony Green and the Gypsy Jazz that kept partygoers swinging off the court. Dinner, provided by New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club, followed.
CIS New Orleans Chair Claire Stahel and Tennis Whites Night Event Chair Lindy Root worked ardently to make the event a success, and WWL’s Lee Zurik lent a hand, serving as celebrity emcee and auctioneer.
Guests also enjoyed dinner and silent, and live, auctions. Auction donors included John and Frankie Wittenberg, who graciously donated a weekend stay and six rounds of golf at Carter Plantation; Harold and Celeste Judell, who donated tickets to the U.S. Open tennis tournament; and local artist Nicole Charbonnet, who donated artwork. Whitney National Bank underwrote the event.
CIS New Orleans focuses on dropout prevention, working to connect public school children with community programs and resources to help each child succeed. Save the date for next year’s event, tentatively scheduled for April 29, 2009.
