NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Bywater Bakery announced the return of its annual community King Cake celebration on Saturday, Jan. 25. Marking its 9th edition, this year’s event benefits The Ellis Marsalis Center for Music while celebrating carnival’s king cake season ending Mardi Gras Day on Tuesday, March 4. This year’s lineup features (in order of appearance): Soul Brass Band, Ram Of Haiti, N.O. Klezmer Allstars, Leyla McCala & Louis Michot, Supergroup Featuring New Orleans Legends, Deacon John, John Boutte, David Torkanowsky, Kirk Joseph, Charmaine Neville, Detroit Brooks, Wessell “Warm Daddy” Anderson, Glen David Andrews & A VERY SPECIAL MUSICAL GUEST.
Bywater Bakery said it will offer king cake lovers’ old favorites including traditional Carnival, Azul Dulce Blueberry, Bourbon Cinnamon (vegan), Chantilly and Pecan Praline. This year, the bakery’s newest addition is Frangipane – house-baked brioche filled with sweet almond cream.
Additionally, Bywater Bakery’s signature savory king cakes — Delicious garlic bread, topped with parmesan cheese, filled with Crawfish, Boudin, or Spinach Artichoke.
Pre-order is highly recommended via the website (https://www.bywaterbakery.com). Bywater Bakery will be open on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with music starting at 11 a.m. Half of all king cake slice sales for the day will be donated to Ellis Marsalis Center for Music. Full bar on site as well as additional items for sale including a Yaka-mein Station, Food by Origen Bistro and (weather permitting) Boiled Crawfish from Seithers Seafood. Whole king cakes and slices will be available for purchase throughout the season ending Monday, March 3.
