Camellia Brand Invites the Public to Gather ‘Round at NOCHI

Complimentary bowls of red beans and rice will be handed out to community Thanksgiving week

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Cooking a large batch of hearty red beans and rice is a long-standing tradition in New Orleans. Camellia Brand plans to uphold this tradition on Monday, Nov. 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. by inviting the community to Gather ‘Round, as L.H. Hayward & Company, the 96-year-old purveyors of the beloved Camellia Brand red bean, serves complimentary bowls of hot red beans and rice to celebrate the season of giving. The event will take place along the sidewalk outside of the New Orleans Culinary & Hospitality Institute (NOCHI), at 725 Howard Ave.

This year’s event will feature a 120-foot-long community table. All are welcome to grab a spot, and it’s Camellia’s hope that the table will attract the community to gather around to share conversation over a New Orleans culinary staple. “We’re excited to engage with the community and partner with NOCHI for this event as we continue this tradition while creating new memories,” said fourth-generation Camellia Brand Owner and CEO Vince Hayward. “Together we’ll gather as one at a community table to share conversation and a hot bowl of Camellia red beans and rice.”

In New Orleans, many find comfort in a bowl of red beans and rice regardless of neighborhood, race, background and economic status. “The New Orleans Culinary & Hospitality Institute is of, by and for a diverse community of food lovers, and we’re proud to work with Camellia Brand to provide this comfort to the community,” said NOCHI Executive Director Leah Sarris. “As it is our mission to provide a seat at the table for all people seeking to develop their culinary passion, we’re thrilled to give this literal seat to our community and our chefs the chance to showcase their talents through a warm bowl of Camellia red beans.”

The popularity of New Orleans’ iconic red beans and rice has made Camellia’s red kidney bean the top-selling red bean in the country. Camellia Brand’s beans, peas and lentils rank above USDA grade in quality and freshness, no soaking necessary. The family-owned company is dedicated to bringing people together through hearty, economical meals created with their premium products.
