NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Canal Place announced its extended shopping hours along with a slate of holiday fun including Selfies with Santa, Movies with Santa, Santa’s Brunch and live music.
“We’re excited once again to spread holiday cheer and embrace the spirit of our community for this special time of year,” said Matt Brown, general manager of Canal Place, in a press release. “We hope visitors and locals alike will come and find their perfect gifts while enjoying the music and merriment.”
Holiday festivities start with the annual Lighting of Canal Street at the entrance to Canal Place hosted by the Downtown Development District, Tuesday, Nov. 26, with the official lighting taking place at 5:45 p.m.
Extended holiday hours begin Black Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Shoppers can enjoy special performances by musicians from the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Selfies with Santa returns Saturday, Dec. 7, from noon to 3. p.m. Santa will make his grand entrance by ringing his reindeer bells and descending the iconic glass elevators before taking his seat in front of the 40-foot-tall Christmas tree. While you wait for your turn to snap a selfie with the jolly man himself, Sugarplum fairies and Santa’s helpers will spread holiday cheer while families enjoy a free gourmet cookie. Selfies with Santa is a free holiday experience.
Every Saturday throughout December, Prytania Theaters at Canal Place will host Movies with Santa featuring holiday favorites like “Elf” (Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. and noon), “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (Dec. 14 at noon) and “Polar Express” (Dec. 21 at noon). Tickets are $10 each and include admission, popcorn and a fountain drink. Tickets can be purchased online at canalplacestyle.com.
New this year, Brasa South American Steakhouse located on Level 2 will host Santa’s Brunch Saturday, Dec. 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The family-friendly event will feature a custom menu, bottomless mimosas and festive photo opportunities with Santa. Tickets can be purchased online at canalplacestyle.com.
Canal Place will ring the sounds of the season with live entertainment from classical and jazz trios and duos Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and lunchtime guests can enjoy choir performances from schools across the Greater New Orleans Area on select days at noon.
