This Carnival season, like most people in New Orleans, I’m amping up my celebratory attire. More sparkle! More shine! More is more! In addition to my ever-growing collection of small accessories, such as purple, green and gold tassel earrings from Fleurty Girl and more Elektra Bolt Balm than any reasonable person should have on hand, I’m springing for a few statement pieces.
For example, last weekend I hit the Fringe & Co. warehouse pop-up and splurged on the rose gold tinsel jacket. It’s so pretty and fun, I’m struggling not to make it an everyday wardrobe staple. This is major for me, considering nearly everything I own is black. Which ends up meaning I could incorporate it into my daily attire, because the tinsel jacket goes marvelously with black.

Meanwhile, if you too want to bring more sparkle and shine to your closet, see the above local, women-owned purveyors of all things sparkly and pop into the Elysian pop up today.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Elysian (3701 Magazine St.) is celebrating Carnival with crawfish from Buggin Out Boils, sweet, creamy flan treats by Only Flans and will have sustainable Mardi Gras throws from Epiphany, which creates fabulous accessories using upcycled costumes. (Disclosure: A staff member at Renaissance Publishing is co-founder and co-owner of Epiphany.) If you bring in old costumes, you’ll get 10 percent off Elysian purchases. The Elysian Carnival Collection is where you will likely want to target your efforts during your visit. Elysian works with artisans in Turkey and Central Anatolia to create its gorgeous designs. Statement pieces abound.
