Festival season is here and hopefully you are attending one of the many upcoming events around the city. It’s finally time to drink in (both literally and figuratively) all the things you love about New Orleans. Each festival has its own qualities, but all of them present the same wardrobe challenges and questions. You want to be cute but will it be crazy hot or rainy? Will you have a place to sit? Will your fellow attendees overindulge and disappear? How long will the bathroom line be? And when exactly will you even have time to shop?! We can’t prepare for all of these potential challenges with our wardrobe, but we can at least try to take some of the guess work out! Hope this helps.
Challenge 1: It’s Hot and Sunny
Solution: wear breathable fabrics. You want to have something on that will dry quickly while also being fashionable! Bring a collapsible water bottle so you can hydrate between drinks. And of course, wear sunscreen and/or a tinted moisturizer. The Elta MD and Revision at Audubon Dermatology are my favorite. And don’t forget the sunglasses!
Challenge 2: It’s Rainy
The shoes must be comfortable and durable. As cute and breezy as it feels, an open toe shoe is risky. It will probably get muddy and, well, you NEED full foot coverage in a Port a Potty. Trust me. Opt for a durable, closed-toe boot or sneaker and you won’t regret it. And, bring a fold up poncho!
Challenge 3: How to Carry Your Belongings?
Fanny packs and cross body bags are your best friend for festival season. I’d opt for a small, lightweight version. Massey’s, in my opinion, has the most durable. Just make sure it’s something that will fit your wallet, phone and a fold up poncho!
