On March 30, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans thanked its volunteers for their hard work and dedication to the organization over the past year. Held at the home of Archbishop Gregory Aymond,
the Archbishop’s Community Appeal Reception celebrated volunteers as they feted and mingled with one another.
The Archbishop’s Community Appeal raises money to fund the work of Catholic Charities, which was founded by Archbishop Philip Hannan in 1966 to help the community’s relief efforts from Hurricane Betsy.
This year, the ACA met its goal of raising $1.727 million. The number may seem random at first, but it’s significant – 1727 is the year that the Ursuline Nuns came to Louisiana from France to begin Catholic education and health care in the United States; this work is continued by Catholic Charities today.
Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans is the largest social service agency in the Gulf South, with 42 programs and three affiliated ministries, it follows the example of Jesus Christ to care for the poor and the vulnerable.
