Celebrating the South

Patrons of the arts assembled in celebration of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art on October 15 at the museum’s annual “O What a Night” gala.

Anna Beth Goodman and Allison Kendrick co-chaired this year’s event, which emphasized the worldwide influence of Southern culture and included art displays, music and culinary tastes of the South.

The evening began with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres prepared by chef R.J. Cooper of Rogue 24, followed by a silent auction of over 40 works of art including pieces by Leslie Addison, Jason Bouldin and Shirley Rabe Masinter. In addition to the silent auction, festivities included a seated dinner prepared by chef Donald Link of Herbsaint; a live auction hosted by president of the Swann Auction Galleries, Nicholas Lowry; and dancing to the music of Glen David Andrews, David Torkanowsky, Germaine Bazzle and more.

Artist George Dureau was the recipient of the Opus Award, which was founded in 2007 and is distributed annually to an artist whose art reflects the influential South.  Dureau reflects the human spirit through his intimate depictions of the human form in his paintings, drawings, and photographs
and has been a member of the New Orleans art community since 1960, when he opened his first gallery.
