Celebration For The Release Of “Rex: 150 Years Of The School Of Design”

 

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The Garden District Book Shop and The Rink are pleased to host an evening celebrating the release of Dr. Stephen Hale’s latest title “Rex: 150 Years of the School of Design ” on Nov. 30. Published to celebrate the Rex Organization’s 150th Anniversary, the book provides a decade-by-decade account of a century and a half of colorful Rex history. The book is also a limited-edition volume, written by Rex Historian and Archivist Hales, with a preface by noted New Orleans author Walter Isaacson, and will be available for purchase at The Garden District Book Shop on Nov. 15.

“Rex: 150 Years of the School of Design” is the largest and most comprehensive New Orleans Carnival krewe history ever published with more than 800 illustrations. It also features an extensive compendium documenting every King, Queen, Maid, Duke, Page, parade date, theme, ball venue and nearly 4,000 float titles.

The Rink’s retailers will be staying open late for the event, which will begin at 5:00 PM with a cocktail reception featuring a full bar and light bites from The Garden District Book Shop, Judy’s at The Rink, and Maisonette. Hales and Isaacson will speak briefly to share insights into the book and the history of the Rex Organization. They will then be available to sign and personalize books purchased at The Garden District Book Shop. Tickets are available on Eventbrite for $75 and include the price of the book and Eventbrite fees. Couples tickets are also available for $85 and includes entry for two, price of the book and Eventbrite fees.

Books are also available for pre-order through The Garden District Book Shop and available for pick-up on November 15. Those who order a book directly through the stop will also get access to the event on November 30.

All proceeds benefit the Crescent City Carnival Museum Foundation and the Pro Bono Publico Foundation.

All citywide-mandated COVID safety protocols will be in place. Proof of vaccination or a negative PCR or rapid test result within 72 hours of the event is required for entry.
