The Super Bowl, while primarily a sports event, never fails to deliver its share of fashion moments. As crowds arrived dressed to impress, I couldn’t help but notice, outside of the die-hard football fans, a predominantly monochromatic, subdued color palette among celebrities. We watched Taylor Swift cheer on her beau, Travis Kelce, in a light-wash denim short that blurred with her all-white tank, blazer, and boots combo. Her signature red lipstick served as her only pop of color. Also, Lady Gaga, never one to blend in, was spotted in the audience alongside singer-rapper Doechii, wearing a somber colored black look from head to toe. I did enjoy Serena Williams’s halftime cameo, clad in a sporty blue skirt set as she danced along to a tune allegedly about her ex-boyfriend. It was still altogether a simple look. Â
One thing is certain, the stars have teams of stylists, thus their Super Bowl ensembles are not conceived of on a whim. So, it raises the question, are the rich and famous avoiding bright patterns and bold hues? Are they allowing their talents to take center stage, ditching attention seeking attire? It’s doubtful. And even if they are, that take won’t last long here. Mardi gras is less than a month away.
