Chef Rebecca Wilcomb Celebrates the Feast of the Seven Fishes at Gianna

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Chef Rebecca Wilcomb of Gianna is offering the traditional Italian-American Christmas Eve dinner, known as the “Feast of the Seven Fishes,” throughout the month of December. Gianna will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Chef Rebecca’s Feast of the Seven Fishes menu is available as the restaurant’s Feed Me menu option for $50 per person and showcases carefully selected sustainable seafood. The family style menu will change daily based on party size and what fresh seafood is available each day. “December is a time of celebration and tradition, and one of my most favorite times of year. I love the idea of sharing a Gulf seafood feast with family and friends,” said Wilcomb.

The first Feast of the Seven Fishes menu will feature spear caught cobia brought in by Chris the Spearfisherman. The meal will start with cobia belly crudo and chopped salads, followed by chili shrimp spaghetti, asciutta, steamed mussels, and focaccia. Served next will be grilled cobia with bagna cauda, seasonal vegetables, and polenta. The menu is finished with lemon mousse and chocolate budino. A beverage pairing is also available with the menu and includes wines and an aperitif.

Feast of the Seven Fishes stems from the Catholic tradition of abstinence, whereby Catholics would refrain from eating meat on the night before Christmas Day. In exchange, they would honor the occasion without breaking tradition by feasting on fish instead.
