Well the holidays are upon us once again and as usual there are a lot of great local music events to help you celebrate the season.
Tipitina’s gets things rolling with big shows on Friday and Saturday. Friday you can catch Flow Tribe’s Christmas Crunktacular with Shamarr Allen and the Underdawgs. This is the 10th anniversary (it’s actually the 11th but they forgot to celebrate the anniversary last year so this is a do over) of the Crunktacular and Flow Tribe have commemorated the event with a new Christmas song. You can listen to “Hammered on Christmas” here. The next night Big Sam will take the stage at Tips for his annual Christmas Jam with Myron Thomas.
If you are looking to get away from the Christmas theme for a bit, on Sunday One Eyed Jacks has their 2000s Indie Rock Dance Night-I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor. Slip away from the family and dance until you forget that Christmas is almost here.
For something a bit more traditional, the Moscow Ballet is will be at the The Saenger Theatre on the 26th with their interpretation of the Nutcracker. Also tonight you can watch the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra perform selections from Handel’s “Messiah” at the First Baptist Church of New Orleans. Or if you are in the mood for something a bit more light hearted, the Victory Belles at the WWII Museum are presenting Christmas Belles are Ringing! through the Dec. 29.
Whatever you choose to do this week have a glorious holiday. I’ll be back next week to talk about the best bests for New Years Eve and Day.
