Christmas Pop-up Bars, Miracle and Sippin’ Santa Return For Another Festive Season

NEW YORK CITY (press release) – Heading into its seventh year, the beloved Christmas-themed pop-up bars Miracle and Beachbum Berry Presents: Sippin’ Santa are excited to return for another holiday season. As this special time of year quickly approaches, spirited cheer, universal desire for hope, nostalgia, and Christmas spirit is needed more than ever. Year over year, Miracle and Sippin’ Santa have been the festive, fun and whimsical destinations for gathering with friends and family to enjoy delicious seasonal drinks, and 2020 will bring the same holiday magic along with a few twists.

The concept for Miracle was born in 2014, when upon the advice of his mother, Greg Boehm decided to halt construction of what was to be his new East Village cocktail bar Mace to transform the unfinished space into a winter wonderland serving holiday-themed drinks among festive décor. As crowds swarmed what became Miracle on Ninth, Boehm’s friends throughout the bar industry began reaching out to him and General Manager Joann Spiegel to see how they could recreate the holiday magic in their own bars –and expansion has boomed ever since.

From the beginning of November to the end of December 2020, Miracle and Sippin’ Santa locations will toast the season with a festive menu of signature cocktails and over the top holiday décor, from classic to contemporary and everything in between. Twerking Santa is right at home next to twinkling lights, vintage garlands, reindeer figurines, and humorous holiday cards. Pair the extravagant setting with the perfect soundtrack of holiday songs, and guests are immediately filled with merriment.

“We are excited to be able to continue Miracle this year, especially in such an unprecedented time,” says Greg Boehm, owner and creator of Miracle. “It has undoubtedly been a tough year for everyone, and our industry has been hit hard, so some holiday cheer is in order. Joann Spiegel, the mastermind behind the brand’s cocktail repertoire, has created a roster of delightful, holiday inclined libations with a few fan favorites from years past making a reappearance. Guests can expect unique and unusual cocktails that play on classic holiday flavors in playful mugs and glassware. New this year are the Jolly Koala with Gin, Vermouth and Pine-Cardamom-Sage Cordial; the On Dasher, a concoction of Bourbon, Mezcal, Sweet Vermouth, Spiced Hibiscus, Burlesque Bitters, and Lemon; and the Fruitcake Flip, made of Brandy, Jamaican Overproof Rum, Amaretto, Fruitcake, Cherry Bitters, and a Whole Egg. Now classic Miracle cocktails back for the season include the Snowball Old-Fashioned, Christmapolitan and Yippie Ki Yay Mother F****r!.

Fueled by the success of cornerstone locations in New York City and New Orleans, Sippin Santa’ will once again continue with partner and Tiki cocktail expert Jeff “Beachbum” Berry, described as one of Imbibe magazine’s “25 most Influential Cocktail Personalities of the Past Century.” Beachbum Berry is the author of six books on vintage Tiki drinks and cuisine, as well as owner of Beachbum Berry’s Latitude 29 in New Orleans, home to his own Sippin’ Santa location annually. This year’s roster of cocktails includes new drinks like the Kaloka Colada, Dark Jamaican & Gold Puerto Rican Rums, Pumpkin Spiced Coconut Cream, Curacao, Lime Juice and Orange Juice; the Parrot in a Pear Tree, made with Blanco Tequila, Pear Liqueur, Applejack, Lime Juice, Parrot Mix, and Black Walnut Bitters; and The Regifter, Martinique Rhum Agricole, Caramelized Pineapple-Garam Masala Syrup, Cherry Liqueur, and Lemon Juice.

As always, the intricate Cocktail Kingdom custom glassware will be available for purchase exclusively at select locations during the duration of the pop-ups, making it the gift that keeps on giving. This year, Miracle will donate 10% of all proceeds from the sale of Santa Pants, Christmas Carol Barrel and Santa Heads signature glassware to the James Beard Foundation Open for Good campaign to aid the relief efforts of independent restaurants.

Miracle and Sippin’ Santa are fortunate to continue to partner with some of the best cocktail bars across the country, but as the safety of guests will be more important than ever, the pop-up concepts may look a bit different than in the past. All locations will follow direction from local officials for capacity and health guidelines. Select participating locations will offer to-go cocktails (where legally able to do so), elaborate outdoor seating areas will be set up where possible to practice social distancing while meeting capacity guidelines, and many locations will enhance their event offerings, usually conducted on-site only, to include online components via Zoom and social media platforms.
