It seems that after Halloween, we have all collectively decided to eschew Thanksgiving events altogether in favor of Christmas-themed gatherings. Personally, I’m all for it.
I’ve always associated Christmas season in Acadiana with shopping with my mom. We’ve always had lots of opportunities to get presents together in settings that combine events and activities with local businesses. While the Festival of Lights in the Oil Center is off, new events are definitely on.
This week, you can combine shopping with wine and date night, or beer and puppies. Get some unique Christmas presents, including native plants, at special events, or just catch a show. Here’s hoping you have the energy for Christmas cocktails early next week, too.
11/21: Making Spirits Bright: A Wine-Tasting Christmas Affair: Two of everyone’s favorite things – wine and Christmas lights – will be the highlights of Thursday night at LARC’s Acadian Village. Presented by Acadian Village and Marcello’s, the evening includes a presentation of food and wine combinations at 6:30 p.m. followed by a tasting. From 7:30-9 p.m., attendees can check out the lights and dance to live music. A cash bar will be available after the tasting.
11/21-11/23: The Merry Wives of Windsor: Presented by Acting Up in Acadiana, “The Merry Wives of Windsor” is an irreverent comedy that puts the roles of men and women during Shakespeare’s time at the forefront of its narrative. A sort of Real Housewives set in ancient times, themes relevant to today’s audiences include trust, loyalty, jealousy and more. Showings are Thursday through Saturday at the Acadiana Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at here.
11/23: Sweets, Eats, Treats and Shopping: The Wurst Biergarten invites everyone to its public market for a dog-friendly shopping experience this Saturday. From 6-11 p.m., artists, craftspeople, farmers, artisans, food entrepreneurs and vintage clothiers will have their wares available in this unique setting located within the heart of downtown Lafayette. This event helps support business incubation, community building and a circular local economy this holiday season.
11/24: Fall Plant Sale: Unsure of what to get someone for Christmas? The Acadiana Native Plant Project in Arnaudville will have plenty of native plants and starter kits available this Sunday from 3 p.m.- 5 p.m. This time of year is great for native plants, particularly shrubs and trees. Great advice is free.
11/26: Miracle at Pamplona Tapas Bar: On Tuesday, Pamplona will open is Christmas-themed cocktail bar for holiday cocktails in a festive setting. Combining Christmas décor and nostalgic energy, the event continues through Wednesday and Friday as well.
