CHVRCHES Tonight at the Joy
Scottish synth-pop group CHVRCHES roll into the Joy tonight on tour supporting their excellent third record Love is Dead. If you’re a regular reader of this column you’ll know that I have a great love for this band. Their sound is joyous and Lauren Mayberry’s voice is transcendent. Since their debut record in 2013 they have amassed a nice selection of hits and always put on a spectacular live performance. Check out the video for “Miracle” below.
Mothers at Gasa
A couple of weeks ago, I published an interview with Kristine Leschper of the band Mothers. Last Tuesday they took the stage at Gasa Gasa to deliver a stellar performance. The show focused on their excellent new record—Render Another Ugly Method—which sees Leschper exploring the very edge of the band’s pervious sound. While these songs work remarkably well on the record, they really shine live. The halting playfulness of the melodic themes as they develop is remarkable when executed in person. Check out “PINK” below.
