City Year New Orleans: 10 years and 4,200 students later…

Peggy Mendoza is Executive Director for City Year New Orleans. City Year is an education-focused, non-profit organization founded in 1988. City Year organizes AmeriCorps members into teams; these young leaders give full-time service to school students in 25 communities in the U.S, and through two international affiliates. City Year New Orleans, which began in 2006, partners with public schools and teachers to keep students in school and on track to succeed. To date, City Year New Orleans has helped more than 4,200 students. This success reflects over 710,800 hours of service by 11,500 dedicated volunteers. These team members have committed their time to work side-by-side with teachers in high-risk areas and in schools throughout the city.
