It’s that time of year again: Pantone, the official voice on all things color, has announced its 2016 Color of the Year. Not only taking a sharp turn from the dark, rich Marsala of this 2015, but also for the first time, Pantone has combined two colors to create the 2016 top hue. Rose Quartz and Serenity meet in the middle for a tranquil, serene color combination. Executive Director of Pantene Color Institute Leatrice Eiseman says the combination “demonstrates an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”
Pantone, wanting the color of the year to reflect the societal norms now coming to fruition, chose the color blend to symbolize the gender blur as it relates to clothing and fashion. Symbolically, the fusion of the two works by highlighting the hues unilateral position and ability to coincide with recent movements towards gender equality. The thought put into the choice adds depth and meaning to the cool, peaceful hues.
These two colors are going to add stunning light to any wedding theme. Pantone has the suggested combinations of the two colors with darker shades like fig and thyme, as well as softer options like mint and gray. We have previously highlighted similar color inspirations that work perfectly with each shade – here we have an icy blue and silver grey and this combination shows shades similar to Rose Quartz with other blush pinks and gold.
Whether you combine the two colors or use them in separate inspiring ways, Pantone’s 2016 colors of the year will provide a beautiful backdrop to any wedding.
