Community-Driven Gatherings This Weekend

Mardi Gras season has concluded, and events around Acadiana are returning to their usual blend of uniquely creative and innovative. This weekend kicks off with the annual Women’s Leadership Conference, which is sure to motivate and equip Acadiana women with local resources and inspiration! A Beer and Gear social from one of Lafayette’s premier outdoor specialty stores is a great way to meet new people, and a supernatural festival is sure to be fun (and telling, should you get your fortunes read). Cheers!

3/5: 2020 Women’s Leadership Conference: The University of Louisiana at Lafayette will host the 13th annual Women’s Leadership Conference this Thursday inside the student union. The day begins bright and early at 7:30 a.m. for check-in and a continental breakfast. Breakout sessions begin at 9 a.m. following introductory remarks and go on until 4 p.m. Features for the daylong event include a 30-minute mentor program and 16 breakout sessions, including “Feminine Decree: Identifying Your Fashion Savior,” “Getting What You Are Worth: Strategies for Negotiation” and “How to Get the Life I Want in 2020: A New Approach.” Tickets start at $35 and can be purchased here.

3/6: Derrick Savoie + Burris Reve After Hours: Reve Coffee Roasters brings back its After Hours concert series this Friday evening with two of the brightest stars in Acadiana. Derrick Savoie, an indie-folk songwriter from Lafayette, hit the music scene in 2015 – you may have seen Savoie playing covers and original tracks with his acoustic guitar along Jefferson Street at ArtWalk, or at songwriters nights. His clear and resonant voice and creative guitar picking make him one of the most inspiring young artists in Lafayette. Burris, moniker for multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Christopher Burris Hochkeppel and a rotating collective of Louisiana’s finest musicians, has had music featured on The Syfy Channel, Lifetime, BTR Today, Inside New Orleans, and more. The project will be releasing a sophomore album in 2020 with the help of well-known producer and engineer, Chris Finney. Doors open at 8:30 p.m., and the music starts an hour later. Cover starts at $5 and goes to $10, so get there early!

3/6: Beer and Gear Social: Pack and Paddle invites outdoor enthusiasts to visit the shop after dark to imbibe locally crafted brews from around the country, check out equipment, talk paddling, meet local club members, enjoy a social night with lots of local paddlers and campers and win prizes – including a free kayak! The event runs from 5:30-8 p.m.

3/7: Hub City Metaphysical Festival: The Wurst Biergarten once again hosts this free fathering of metaphysical vendors, teachers, healers, practitioners, performers and more! Get your tarot cards read, check out some apothecary goods, chat with mediums and more in a family-friendly environment. Event begins at 10 a.m.!

3/7: Ginger Sprout Pop-Up Event: Gingersprout Plant Co. will host its third plant popup this Saturday at 128 Woodlawn Ave.! A perfect post-Farmers’ Market outing, the pop-up promises beautifully curated houseplants, plant wipes, custom plant journals, plant calendars, a dirty bar, and two mystery products.
