Compère Lapin Introduces Caribbean Dinner Series In September

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Located in the Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery, Chef Nina Compton’s Compère Lapin has earned raves for its contemporary cuisine, creative cocktails and bustling atmosphere. Now, the Warehouse District hotspot is inviting diners to embark on a culinary tour through the Caribbean with a series of rotating menus, each week showcasing the unique cuisine from a different Caribbean destination. Inspired by Chef Compton’s sister Fiona Compton, a London-based Saint Lucian Caribbean historian, visual artist and cultural ambassador, the series is set to launch on Sunday, Sept. 1 and will highlight a different island each week throughout September.

“My sister and I are very connected to our Caribbean heritage, so it was only natural that we decided to put this series together,” says Compton. “Even though the cuisine at Compère Lapin is Caribbean inspired, I want these menus to really shine a light on the typical, local cuisine from each island.”

The weekly dinners, priced at only $45 per person (excluding tax and gratuity), will include four courses, with an optional $25 cocktail pairing featuring Caribbean rums. For the premiere dinner, Compton will serve up a Cuban inspired feast featuring media noche empanada, pork belly with platano and mojo verde, vaca frita with congris, and flan de coco. Libations include canchánchara or canchá for short – Cuba’s oldest cocktail made with Havana Club Añejo rum, fresh lime juice, and honey syrup; Havana especial – a cocktail that can be traced back to 1935 made with Havana Club Añejo rum, pineapple juice, lemon, simple syrup, and maraschino liquor; and El Presidente – a boozy, dry cocktail made with Havana Club Añejo Clasico rum, vermouth blanc, orange curaçao, and grenadine.
