In a region known for its cuisine, those who cook it are taken very seriously. In recognition of what culinary talent there is, Louisiana Cookin’ magazine honored five chefs at its 6th annual “Chefs to Watch” awards at Café Reconcile on Aug. 27. Chefs Alon Shaya of Besh Steakhouse, Michael Sichel of 7 on Fulton, Guy Sockrider of Muriel’s Jackson Square, Stephen Stryjewski of Cochon and Chris Nealy of Mansur’s on the Boulevard (in Baton Rouge) were recognized for their culinary expertise.

The event was also a fund-raiser for Café Reconcile. This restaurant located in Central City gives at-risk youths an opportunity to learn skills for the hospitality and restaurant industries.
“This year’s benefit dinner raised more money than any previous year,” says Susan Ford, publisher of Louisiana Cookin’.
