The second annual Backstage Bash for Southern Rep was held Saturday, March 20, and brought 250 supporters of the arts to a lavish celebration on the 3rd floor of The Shops at Canal Place. The event offered a special “glimpse behind the velvet curtain” to support the 23rd season of the theatre.

The Patron Party preceding the bash took place at The Westin where opera singer Denise Sharp and banjo player/vocalist Lisa Q. Mount performed. Stein’s Deli and La Divina Gelateria served their delicacies.

At the bash, guests were welcomed with a unique décor complete with set, lights and costumes from the season. Tables were graced with scenic models illuminated by candles and interesting theatre fact cards. Open bar and bites by Deanie’s, Lüke Restaurant, 5 Fifty 5 and more local favorites had everyone feeling like a star.

Kermit Ruffins & The Barbecue Swingers and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue got the party started with their upbeat musical magic. A silent auction of 125 items included Manolo Blahniks worn and signed by the Sarah Jessica Parker. Then Andrew M. Ward of Tulane University took the stage for the live auction, offering a Home Caviar Party donated by Louisiana Caviar Company, a NYC winter vacation and a piece of art by David Harouni.

In attendance were Kerry Clayton and Paige Royer, John and Gayle Gish, Bruce and Melissa Gordon, Doug and Elaine Grundmeyer, Dr. Bernie and Marlene Jaffe and Richard Lee Mathis. “Bash Crash Time” offered discounted admission to late-arrivals wishing to take advantage of the night’s offerings.
