Have you ever dreamed of having a party on a float when no one is expecting a parade? Several couples and I got together and did just that! On October 2, 30 friends climbed aboard a float escorted by police cars. Music by Julio and Cesar made the night festive and we have Barry and Brian Kern to thank for the revelry. Everyone was dropped off at Tipitina’s at the corner Tchoupitoulas Street and Napoleon Avenue. Guests were given flashing necklaces, bracelets, rings and glasses, and enjoyed champagne, wine and a special drink created by Nan and Britt Galloway.
We made our way down Napoleon and turned onto St. Charles Avenue and then on to Mardi Gras World, where the perfect set-up was waiting for us in their Plantation Room. If you haven’t seen the new East Bank Mardi Gras World, it’s unbelievable: giant oak trees, the facade of a plantation, water features and more!
We decorated the tables with my centerpieces, in which were placed palm fronds and branches of magnolia, lagustrum and holly. We added leaf placemats, bandanas for napkins and flower napkin rings, along with votive candles.
When we arrived, Julio and Cesar continued with us so we could dance the night away. After passing out maracas, tambourines and small drums, everyone was out on the dance floor.
We paused for a beautiful dinner created by Kay Roussel of Mardi Gras World that included Shrimp Creole; rosemary risotto cakes; a walnut, cranberry vinaigrette dressing over exotic organic baby lettuces; and a warm apple tart drizzled
with caramel sauce.
After more dancing, the Mardi Gras World van took us to the Sazarac Bar at The Roosevelt New Orleans and then on
to Cure on Freret Street. Everyone was returned safely home after the last stop. What a special night!
