For our second annual mother-daughter trip, Mom and I are headed to Paris and Provence, for a mix of antiquing and flea market hopping. While there will undoubtedly be time to shop for clothes, we still want to arrive looking the part. With daytime temperatures in the mild mid-60s and chilly evenings, chic but also appropriate clothing are key.
To curate a French wardrobe, I turned to our friends at Peony for outfit recommendations. They carry modern French brands like Sessùn and Tara Jarmon, so I knew they would be the right fit. After reviewing multiple options with them, a clear theme emerged, which I’ve sorted into three categories.
First, the most obvious, stripes. A little research confirmed that the classic horizontal “Breton stripes” originated as part of a French Navy uniform. Timeless and effortlessly chic.
Second, feminine details. Think delicate bows, ruffles, and whimsical embellishments on tops, skirts, and even pants. A little romance never hurt anybody.
Lastly, chic outerwear is a must. Whether strolling along the Seine or shopping in Le Marais, you’ll likely catch a chill or even a bit of rain, so packing a stylish coat or trench is essential.
With all these elements in mind, I think we’ve nailed a beginner French aesthetic. Now, we’ve got to go pack!
