The Urban Conservancy’s fall fundraiser was cleverly titled “You Are Here” to congratulate local businesses that go “Above and Beyond” in the eyes of their patrons. The public was encouraged to make nominations through invitations with Facebook, New Orleans Magazine, Stay Local!, Twitter and WWNO. The inaugural awards ceremony took place on Wednesday, October 21 at Rosy’s Jazz Hall.
The fun-filled gathering boasted yummy delights provided by a variety of Greater New Orleans restaurants and caterers, drinks from local distributors and breweries, live music and a silent auction. The coveted awards went to: Black Velvet Oyster Bar and Grill; Campbell’s Coffee & Tea; Pal’s Lounge; Poydras Junction Hardware & Marine Supplies; and Zuppardo’s Family Supermarket. These upstanding establishments were found to be exceptional at connecting with their communities. In addition to these honors, three very special awards went to three very special businesses:
Continuity to Edwards Shoe Service; Resiliency to Teacher’s Stop, Inc.; and Leadership to Lupo Enterprises.
The Urban Conservancy says they are “dedicated to research, education and advocacy that promote the wise stewardship of the urban built environment and local economies … (focusing) on sustainable land use practices and economic development in Orleans and the surrounding four parishes.”
