I am so excited about fall! I love the football, the cooler weather and the parties. This fall however I got off to a bumpy start … literally. I was standing on a stool (which you should never do) putting something on a closet shelf and I whacked my head on the door frame. Turns out I gave myself a concussion. I was stuck in my apartment for a week. The worst part wasn’t the fact that I watched so much “Law & Order” that I actually started to believe I could pass the bar, but that I was unable to attend two parties I had really been looking forward to: “Martini Madness” and “Scales & Ales.”
This year the eighth annual “Martini Madness” was held at the Pavilion of the Two Sisters in City Park to raise funds to improve and further restore the Popp Fountain and the landscaping surrounding the Arbor Room that suffered from Hurricane Katrina. I got great feedback from the event and it proved to be not only a blast, but very successful as well. I look forward to attending next year.
I was also sad to miss the second annual “Scales & Ales.” This event offers so much and general admission starts at $35! The party took place at the delightful Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. “Scales & Ales” supports Audubon’s Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program. Sea creatures, food, wine and Kermit Ruffins – how can you go wrong? I can’t wait until the third annual event!
Although I was benched for these parties last month, I look forward to all the upcoming events this month. That is one thing that makes New Orleans so wonderful; there are always people to see, places to go and cocktails to drink. Even if you miss something one week you can make up ground the next!
