Crusading Against Cancer

Co-Presidents Lisa Baynham and Judy Hof led this year’s annual crusade against cancer on Thursday, September 14.

This year’s 11th Cancer Crusaders’ “Celebration of Life Luncheon,” held in the Grand Ballroom at the New Orleans Marriot Hotel, honored cancer survivors and community activists Linda Fried, Russ Herman, Morton Katz, Chad Landry, Mike Manza, Susan Turner McMillan, Mardelyn Miller, Susan Mayeaux Schneider, Kathy Singleton, Marie Wagner and Cynthia Whittington with an “Honoree and Life Member Reception” that preceded the luncheon. Crusaders also gathered in memory of their beloved long-time supporter, Gayle Batt.

Debbie Buchler and Kathy Pastorek chaired the rally, complete with savory victuals and a silent auction featuring the unique artwork of local artists including Milo Stephens-Asche and Mary Ann Pescot de Boisblanc. Guests also took their chances in a raffle offering a dazzling stainless steel and 18 karat yellow gold Ladies Ebel watch donated by Lee Michaels Fine Jewelers.

Established in 1978, the Cancer Crusaders is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that has raised over $2.5 million for cancer research in the New Orleans area.

Both Louisiana State University and Tulane University medical schools’ benefited from proceeds raised.
