Internationally acclaimed British pianist Danny Driver graced guests with his repertoire of innovative classical interpretations at “Nocturne X,” this year’s annual fundraiser for the Musical Arts Society of New Orleans.
The artist, on Hyperion’s label, has occupied a spot on the MASNO’s wish list for years, and the organization was lucky enough to finally secure him as featured performer for the night. Driver played his signature blend of genres ranging from baroque to contemporary, much to the delight of the 180 patrons at the Ritz-Carlton on Sunday, October 14. The concert was particularly fitting for October, as the Arts Council of New Orleans’ designated it “New Orleans Performing Arts Month.”
Guests were greeted with a champagne reception before moving on to Driver’s salon recital. The music was the perfect prelude to a gourmet meal of heirloom beet salad, filet of beef and pomme terrine in burgundy sauce. Dessert was a dangerously decadent banana foster milk chocolate mousse paired with rice croquant. The spread was graciously catered by the Ritz-Carlton.
All proceeds went directly back to MASNO to fund international piano competitions, institutes and performances throughout the year. MASNO has celebrated the cultural importance of classical music in New Orleans since 1980.
