David Simon is sleepy.
He had a 4:30am call time in New Orleans, where the second season of “Treme,” the HBO series he co-created, is beginning production. Then he traveled to Austin, Texas, where he’s receiving the Austin Film Festival’s Television Writer Award and the pilot of “Treme” was shown on Saturday night. Despite the sleeplessness, however, the prolific writer-producer quickly perks up once he gets talking, speaking animatedly on such topics as journalism, capitalism and television.
